It was an honour for us to have what is quickly becoming Steve Winterburn’s trademark sculpture, Free Spirit, at the Defender Burghley Horse Trials 2025. The piece adorned the members lawn for the 4 day event with the incredible 16th century Burghley House as the most incredible backdrop.
The sculpture being placed at the trials was as a platform to launch a new journey working to raise awareness in horse welfare, with non other than equestrian legend Pippa Funnell. We are very excited about working on a conservation project so close to home, with our family being deeply rooted in the equestrian world too! There are many exciting avenues we wish to explore and together with Pippa we aim to achieve a lot and give back to a world we love dearly.
The reception for Free Spirit was overwhelming, it was nearly always surrounded by onlookers and people having their photo taken and we received endless kind words complimenting the piece. The huge sculpture that stands at 9ft tall was the talk of the members area. We are incredibly grateful for everyone at Burghley Horse Trials and Burghley House for showcasing our Art at such a prestigious event and would also like to extend thanks to everyone who had their picture taken or passed on tributes.
Finally we would like to congratulate all of those who competed at the weekend and especially to Ros Canter for her back to back wins at Burghley on Lordships Graffalo. Burghley Horse Trials is an amazing event, of which we always attend and enjoy being a part of, so to have our sculpture there was just the an incredible privilege.
