The leopard is infamous for being one of the most elusive creatures on the planet, luckily Steve has spent many years working in conservation in Africa and so was blessed to see them a handful of times. Out of these sightings the most mesmerising for him were to see them hunting and that is exactly where the inspiration came from for “Silence”.
This is a composition that isn’t new to Steve Winterburn he sculpted a small stalking leopard early in his career which was a sell out collection and he wanted to circle back round but to immortalise this iconic hunting pose but with a renewed power and vigour with his now trademark striking tooling bringing the piece to life in contemporary form. The priority with this sculpture was to capture and portray the gliding stealth movement of the leopard species when they are shadowing their prey, he has captured this beautifully with the dynamics and movement. Combining the stooped positioning of the cat with the primal intent in its eyes, you find yourself holding your breath whilst looking at this piece and the sheer size adds a serious show-stopping wow factor that makes this piece brilliant for any space both inside and out.
