The peregrine falcon is the fastest bird in the world reaching speeds exceeding 186mph, this marvel of nature and true physical prowess is the main driving factor behind Steve Winterburn’s inspiration and the sculptures design. The way Steve composed this piece with the falcon suspended atop one of his signature stylish swirls, turning in full flight really paints a picture and captures the moment. Upon the first glance the audience can connect with the piece feeling as though they are watching the bird in pursuit rapidly closing in on prey.

Steve has captured the elegance and streamlined appearance of the Peregrine beautifully. The high detailed tooling work on the face and talons really captures the character and the sleek stylised finishing on the back compliments that, creating a real sense of speed and gives the piece lovely movement.

Falcons and birds of prey have always been a passion for Steve and always will be. One of his first sell out collections was a falcon, and he has done several variations of them over the years, learning more about them each time. Having close friends in falconry has helped Steve to achieve the amazing accuracy and detail, as he has been privileged enough to get hands on experiences with them and understand the majestic beauty of these birds up close and personal.
