Steve Winterburn’s initial inspiration for sculpting the Belted Galloway breed came from a visit to a game fair where he fell in love with their docile friendly nature, partnered with their incredibly cute appearance. Whilst at the fair Steve began talking to a breeder to help with the referencing phase and this relationship sparked a friendship which in time led to the commission of multiple Belted Galloway works.
This particular sculpture is a spin off from those original commissions in which Steve has focused on a calf standing alone. The sculpture creates a lovely sense of innocence and endearment of new born life, taking the audience straight to those first precious moments which is exactly what Steve wanted to achieve with this piece. Combing that with the cuteness of the calf captured beautifully makes for a lovely piece of art that would bring joy to any room it is situated in.
