The inspiration behind this piece and its name, materialises from Steves portrayal of motherhood. He wanted to depict the unwavering commitment and devotion through means of sculpture. At the heart of the work is an elegant angel, but not generic, its is very abstracted and broken down with limbs missing and one solo wing detached behind the figure, with the angel suspended weightless on an ascending base. This unique composition is to represent how mothers keep on giving until they have nothing more to give, the expression on her face and the way she is poised illustrates exactly that and so comes the title “All That I Have Given”.

The surface of this sculpture is much looser than Steve’s signature style more commonly associated with his wildlife pieces, this gives the work much more of an organic feel and accentuates his artistic expression. The combination of this chosen finish and the overall composition really paints the picture of the story Steve is telling and delivers a very powerful and eye-catching piece of art.

This sculpture was one of the first figurative and more contemporary styled works that Steve completed. Although known for his wildlife, his imagination is very suited to all subjects, this is showcased well here.
